くっつく【食っ付く】

1 〔付着する〕 stick 《to…》; cling [hang on, hold on] 《to…》; adhere 《to…》; cleave 《to…》; 〔接着する〕 stick; stick together.

●べっとりとくっつく stick to sth in great quantity; stick to a large area 《of…》

・しっかりくっつく stick fast to sth

・傷口がくっつく a wound [cut] heals [closes up].

●ご飯粒がほっぺにくっついているよ. There's a bit of rice sticking to [on] your cheek.

・眠くてまぶたがくっつきそうだ. I'm so sleepy I can't keep my eyes open.

・この接着剤を使うと木材はうまくくっつく. Wooden materials will stick together just fine if you use this cement.

2 〔近接する〕 keep [stand] close 《to…》; hug; 〔つき従う〕 follow (along); 〔くみする〕 stick [go] along with sb.

●くっつき合ってすわる sit close together

・くっついて歩く 〔一緒に〕 walk close together [side by side]; 〔腕を組んで〕 walk arm in arm

・あとにくっついて歩く walk on [at] sb's heels; go close behind sb.

●2 軒の家はぴったりくっついて建っている. The two houses stand right up next to each other.

・あの 3 人はいつもくっついている. Those three are always together.

・この子は一日中私にくっついている. This child stays at my side [follows me along] all day long.

・子供たちは 1 つのベッドに 3 人くっつき合って寝た. The children slept crowded together, three in the one bed.

・〔写真撮影で〕 みなさん, もう少しくっついてください. Everyone please close up a bit more.

・あの人にくっついていれば損はない. You won't lose anything if you stick [go along] with him.

3 〔深い仲になる〕 become thick 《with…》; get involved 《with…》; 〔結婚する〕 get hitched.

●芸能ニュース番組は俳優がくっついた離れたの話題ばかりだ. Celebrity news programs are all about the attachments and split-ups of actors.

・彼は友人の妹とくっついた. He got hitched to his friend's younger sister.
